Navy Pier Fireworks Canceled
The City of Chicago has canceled its iconic Fourth of July fireworks show this 2021 Independence Day weekend (for both Saturday July 3 and Sunday July 4) at Navy Pier. The reason offered is the "the previously unknown status of the COVID-19 pandemic in Chicago this summer and its impact on the Pier's ability to successfully plan for the large-scale celebration in advance". Navy Pier resumes its normal Wednesday and Saturday fireworks shows on July 7 and 10, and through the Labor Day weekend.

Block Club Chicago has a list of other celebration activities you can do in Chicago to celebrate the 2021 Independence Day. Even without fireworks, let the Fourth be with you, and visit Navy Pier for its Ferris wheel, and other cultural, dining, shopping and family attractions.

Sparklers To Be Legalized?
The proposed bill HB 2898 is being discussed by the Illinois House of Representatives to legalize "ground based sparklers" (also referred as fountains or Roman candles). Chicago and state fire and health officials are warning the lawmakers about the dangers that come with the seemingly innocuous sparklers.
