St. Peter's

United Church
of Christ

Skokie, IL

Welcome to St Peter's UCC
in Skokie

An Open and Affirming Congregation

We’re so glad you’ve decided to check us out!
We are a very friendly bunch, and we love to meet new people and share new experiences with them! The best way to make new friends is to get to know each other a little bit, so here are a few things you should know about US!

First, we are a part of the United Church of Christ, which means we are passionate about our faith and open in our thinking. We believe in a Triune God who loves EVERYONE, no matter who they are or where they are on life’s journey. We invite all Christians and seekers after God to partake of the Lord’s Supper with us regardless of denominational background.

The next important thing to know about us is that we are an Open and Affirming congregation. This means that we believe that since we’re all made in God’s image, all people are created equal, and are to be treated, loved, and welcomed equally, regardless of gender, orientation, race, economic status, or physical or mental ability. We welcome all people to share our Church in worship, marriage, baptism, funeral, and fellowship. This is the promise we make to you … all are welcome.

He has shown you, O mortal, what is good.
And what does the Lord require of you?
To act justly and to love mercy
and to walk humbly with your God.

A Just Harvest

For almost 50 years, St Peter's has partnered with the Community Kitchen of A Just Harvest, providing meals and serving them to hungry people in Rogers Park.

Skokie Pride

As an Open and Affirming Congregation, we do whatever we can to participate and support the LGBTQ+ people in Skokie. We provide a safe and welcoming place to worship, and affirm every person's right to be who they are.

Military Outreach USA

As a Military Outreach USA congregation, St. Peter's collects goods, food, and money for our veterans, including stocking the Jesse Brown Food Pantry and providing supplies for vets transitioning into homes.

District 69

From St Patrick's Day Bingo to Thanksgiving and Christmas meals for hungry families, St. Peter's supports our local families with caring and love. Our Annual Easter Egg Hunt, Rummage Sale, and Holiday Craft Fair are other ways we connect with these families in our community.

Free Mini Pantry

Take what you need, give what you can!
As a part of Niles Township's new Coming Together initiative to address food insecurity in our community, St. Peter's is now hosting a Mini Free Pantry just outside our Laramie door!

Community Outreach

St Peter's is honored to be a part of the large (and growing!) number of groups who are doing good in the community.  Download the Outreach Contact List to reach out to these groups if you are looking for assistance, or for a place to plug in!

Beloved by God

The United Church of Christ Trans-Nonbinary Strategy Group is calling on all faith leaders to record and post on social media a 30-second video offering words of encouragement, support, and solidarity with people of Trans and Nonbinary experience, their families, loved ones, and allies using the hashtags: #TransJustice #UCCMovement.

Over the past several months there has been an onslaught of anti-trans and nonbinary legislation or actions in the majority of states in this country, some of which have been passed and signed into law. The harmful, negative, stigmatizing rhetoric of many candidates, legislators, elected officials, and civic leaders have been overwhelming, attacking members of our community who already experience marginalization and discrimination at significant levels, amplifying the despair and mental health challenges so many endure.

This is a time to live out loud the love our faith calls us to. That is why we want to create a viral, social media campaign that will overwhelm our trans and nonbinary with messages of affirmation, solidarity, and support. With your participation, we can create a viral social media video campaign that can be a balm to those who need it during these challenging days.

When you post your video, please use the hashtags: #TransJustice #UCCMovement
